Instagram Adds New Profile Banner for Scheduled Live Videos

Instagram is making it easier for marketers to raise awareness of upcoming live video streams with a new banner feature in profiles.

As video is now Instagram’s main focus, after it said last summer that it was “no longer a photo sharing app”, the social media platform has rolled out two new updates for the format this week.

The first is the addition of a new banner that lists details about live streams that a brand or creator has scheduled at the top of their main profile page, under the bio.

The banner will be clickable so users can tap through to see more information about the date of the live stream and when it will start.

It will also offer users the option to sign up for a reminder when it gets under way.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri said creators already have the ability to schedule “lives”, but that it was previously locked to publishing posts in a feed.

Live streams have taken on greater precedence during the last two years, so the new addition will empower marketers to get the word out about important events, which can then boost viewing numbers.

Multiple live events can be scheduled too, with each one presented in a side-scrolling list within the banner.

Instagram has also added the ability to remix recorded videos in new ways, which should be useful for spinning content into new formats for publication on the platform and across social media.

The remix feature also works on any public video, with creators being able to decide whether they want to allow certain content to be remixed by others.
